Gout is an inflammatory arthritis caused by higher uric acid in the blood.Uric acid forms crystal in the joints that causes inflammation.Symptoms involve sudden and severe pain,redness and swelliing of joints.The major causes are hyperuricemia,consuming diet that rich in purines and other health conditions like obesity,heart failure and kidney diseases.
Epidemiologic studies suggest that there is an increase in gout among the population so identifying the risk factors helps to prevent and manage the gout among the population.Vitamin C helps to lower uric acid by uricosuric effect.Only small amount of study reveal about uricosuric effect of Vitamin C but it performs beneficial effect for people with gout.
Recently a randomized trial observed that supplementation of 500 mg/day of vitamin c for continuous two months reduces uric acid.So increasing Vitamin C intake are beneficial in management or prevention of gout.
