Panchamirtham, a very famous prasadam in all Murugan temple and all shops near the Murugan temple used to sell it in a bottle.It is widely consumed in the southern region of Tamilnadu.Mainly produced in Thiruchendur,Thiruparankundram and Pazhani temple. Panchmirtham is a fermented mixture of five ingredients namely Banana, jaggery, Honey, Cardamom and Ghee.Flavourings such as dates and diamond sugars also added.Even a single drop of water in not added in a whole preparation.It is a nutrient rich traditional recipe for Pregnant women especially in the last trimester.
According to Ayurveda, Panchamirtham nourishes the seven bodily tissues and they are reproductive tissue,bone marrow and nervous tissue,fatty tissues,muscle tissues and plasma for strength and vitality. It boost immunity and improves brain function. Usually ghee and honey are not mixed together but Panchamirthan is the only exception.
As per studies,Lactobacillus is the potential probiotic micro organism prominently available in Panchamirtham.Also molecular characterization of 103 bacterial isolates were under Bacillus sp.,Acinetobacter sp.,Klebsiella sp.,Sphingomonas sp., and Sphingomonas sp.,Probiotics may alleviate lactose intolerance which have positive influence on beneficial gut bacteria that stimulates gut immunity and reduces blood cholesterol.Plantain contain dietary fiber,starch and source of flavonoids,leucocyanidin,catecholamine,phytosterol,.vitamin A,magnesium,potassium and vitamin B6.
